In India, there is provision for pre - service teacher education for the teachers of pre-primary, primary, secondary and higher secondary level. Now it is compulsory in many states. But there is no program for pre - service teacher education for the teachers of higher education, i.e. for the teachers of colleges and universities. From our experience, we can guess that pre - service teacher education is very important for the teachers of colleges and universities because without training and practice of teaching and education about the teaching profession teacher can't teach and work properly in higher education institutions. Therefore the investigator tried to study on the issue. He communicated with teachers of higher education of different states, especially of West Bengal and then got the findings.
