Content-based image retrieval using combined features of color descriptors, GLCM-SFTA, and Hu’s moments

Due to the information technology which is rapidly developing, digital content is becoming increasingly difficult to handle. This includes images that are kept on digital cameras, CCTV, and medical scanners. Areas such as medical and forensic science are using these databases to do critical tasks which include diagnosing diseases or identification of criminal suspects. However, managing and search the similar images from these databases is not an easy task. Content-Based Image Retrieval (CBIR) is one of the techniques used to manage and search similar images from a database. The performance of CBIR depends on the low level (Color, Texture, and Shape) features. In this paper, a new feature vector to represent the image in terms of low-level features and to improve the performance of CBIR is proposed. The proposed CBIR system was developed based on the combined features of Color, Texture, and Shape Features. Color features are extracted by using Color moments, HSV Color Autocorrelogram Feature (CAF), and Color Layout Descriptor (CLD). Texture features are extracted by Gray Level Co-Occurrence Matrix (GLCM) and Segmentation-based Fractal Texture Analysis (SFTA). Shape features are extracted by Hu Moments. The combined features which are made up of 165 Color Descriptor features, 109 GLCM-SFTA texture features, and 8 shape Hu's moment values are extracted to both query and database images. The extracted feature vector of the query image is compared with extracted feature vectors of the database images to obtain similar images.

Rainfall threshold intensity & other associated factors triggering debris flow in the Himalayan region – A literature review

Debris flows are fast-moving landslides that occur in a wide variety of environments throughout the world. Some landslides move slowly and cause damage gradually, whereas others move so rapidly that they can destroy property and take lives suddenly and unexpectedly. Debris flows, sometimes referred to as mudslides, mudflows, lahars, or debris avalanches, are common types of fast-moving landslides. These flows generally occur during periods of intense rainfall or rapid snowmelt. They usually start on steep hillsides as shallow landslides that liquefy and accelerate to speeds that are typically about 10 mph but can exceed 35 mph. The consistency of debris flows ranges from watery mud to thick, rocky mud that can carry large items such as boulders, trees, and cars. Debris flows from many different sources can combine in channels where their destructive power may be greatly increased. They continue flowing downhills and through channels, growing in volume with the addition of water, sand, mud, boulders, trees, and other materials. When the flows reach canyon mouths or flatter ground, the debris spreads over a broad area, sometimes accumulating in thick deposits that can wreak havoc in developed areas.

Study of relationship between Anemia and Hypertension

Hypertension in pregnancy is one of the major complications in pregnancy, which increases the maternal mortality rate. The purpose of this study is to study the relation between anemia and hypertension for early detection and preventive measure. Method: Hemoglobin and Blood Pressure were measured in 80 women in their I, II, and III trimesters of pregnancy. Patients with infective, metabolic, or degenerative disease and patients with antihypertensive medication before pregnancy were excluded from the study. Result: In non-anemic women, blood pressure was within the normal range, whereas in the anemic group systolic blood pressure was found to be raised in the 3rd trimester. Conclusion: This study shows anemia can be well co-related with systolic hypertension and early detection of anemia can prevent further complications.

Consumerism

Post-WWI, the idea of consumerism emerged. Appliances that made the life of American housewives much simpler were introduced into society. These appliances were commonly known as ‘electric servants’ as they made everyday tasks easier and faster to finish. They included washing machines, vacuum cleaners, refrigerators that had freezers. Further, post the Great Depression and WWII, the living standards of the American people increased significantly as the US emerged as a powerful military force. Society became more affluent, suburban lifestyle and the middle class emerged. With this new inflow of income, there had to also be an outflow of this income. Americans became indulgent in material desire, spending most of their money on goods like televisions, cars, and home appliances – things that modernized their life. . Between 1945 and 1949, Americans purchased 20 million refrigerators, 21.4 million cars, and 5.5 million stoves, a trend that continued well into the 1950s.

Image classification

More than 25 % of the entire revenue in E-Commerce is attributed to apparel & accessories. A major problem they face is categorizing these apparel from just the images especially when the categories provided by the brands are inconsistent. There is potentially n number of categories in which a given image can be classified. Manually checking and classifying images is a very tedious process. The task becomes near impossible when we're faced with a massive number of images, say 10,000 or even 100,000. How useful would it be if we could automate this entire process and quickly label images per their corresponding class? We can solve this problem by implementing the image classification

Sri Lankan hybrid cultural remarks, revivals, and colonialism: based on Sri Lankan southern province temples’ murals

Sri Lanka has been an independent nation since ancient times. Historical sources attest to the fact that Sri Lanka was mainly inhabited by the Sinhala Buddhists and the Hindus under the political and economic conditions inherent in the country have changed due to the British occupation of the country. It had a profound effect on the cultural and religious conditions, especially the customs and traditions that promoted the local identity. It can be seen that the local people have been in a lot of trouble as upper-class people of this country who had worked with foreigners. The temple murals can be identified as an opportunity for the oppressed people of this country, led by the monks, to stand up against it, and through the visual media to show the oppression of the people and the catastrophic situation in the governing body. This research explores the challenges posed to the local culture through the art of temple murals. It will be very important to be able to control the present adverse conditions by finding solutions through history to the problems that are especially affecting the Buddhist Culture.
