Financial literacy among the youth- A conceptual review

Financial literacy is the sum total of various skills, aptitudes and abilities required to make sense of financial phenomena & take sound financial decisions. It is a very important concept in the present times. The world that we witness today is a much different one than the one occupied by our elders. Even though many things have managed to remain the same, many more have changed rapidly. Accompanying these rapid changes are the growing complexity in the way in which thigs work, for eg; the financial system. Just consider the following; 1. More and more youngsters are conscious about considering retirement planning since early on, as they know they have to fend for themselves past their retirement age. 2. More than ever before, youngsters today need to think of their income as a limited economic resource, which has unlimited demands, many alternative uses, considerable opportunity cost & their spending behaviour can have long term, irrevocable consequences. 3. We, as a country, over the past decade are slowly but surely shifting from a nation of savers to that of spenders, with more and more youngsters being comfortable with credit cards & term loans for acquiring a variety of consumer goods. 4. The financial system, too, has never been more flabbergasting, with a plethora of investment & insurance products (who often intermingle) to choose from & advisors of all classes & pedigree vying for a chance to manage other’s money for them, for a fee, ofcourse. 5. Easy access to & low barriers in financial markets of all types, terms, sizes & shapes have attracted many youngsters to take part in them, irrespective of these youngsters’ understanding thereof & expertise therein. It is very easy to fumble and make mistakes in such a scenario, if one is not well equipped with the necessary skills and abilities to make sense of & then harness all the data & information, often easily & abundantly available, to make sound financial decisions. Often, such mistakes have been known to have long term, even permanent, ramifications. It is evident from the large number of youngsters and even middle aged people still struggling pay off their student loan arrears & make sense of their burgeoning credit card debt. Considering this, it probably wouldn’t be an exaggeration to consider financial literacy a valuable life skill. Measuring relevant parameters is the first logical step towards solving a problem. In order to understand whether the youngsters of today possess necessary skills, aptitudes & abilities to make sound financial decisions, we first need to measure their current level of financial literacy & identify the various determinants & influencing factors in financial decision-making process, as engaged in by the youth. This is an endeavour which will aid the various stakeholders (policy makers, educators, parents, youngsters, banks & other financial institutions, regulators, etc) to undertake necessary policy interventions, create effective educational programs, develop relevant financial products and effectively train the next generation of decision makers to make better financial decisions. Also, relevant research gaps need to be explored in order to undertake future research. The current research paper is an attempt in that direction.

Effect of heat therapies on pain and disability in patients with Osteoarthritis of knee joint

Osteoarthritis (OA) of knee is most common form of arthritis and is a major cause of functional disability especially in elderly patients due to pain. Hot mustard and wax therapy are two modalities employed in management of pain. Aim: To compare the effect of hot mustard application and wax therapy on pain and disability in patients with osteoarthritis of knee. Methods and Material: The study adopts a comparative trial design. A total of sixty subjects of age 50-65 years were recruited . They were assigned to either group One ( hot mustard application) or group Two (wax therapy). Every subject were assessed for pain and disability at baseline and following ten days. Results: Pre and post data was analysed by Wilcoxon signed rank test which showed difference in VAS (P<0.00), WOMAC (P<0.00) in mustard group and VAS (P<0.00), WOMAC (P<0.00) in wax group respectively. The overall comparison between the groups was done by using Mann Whitney U test which showed decrease in VAS scale (P<0.007). Conclusions: The study result suggests that both hot mustard application and wax therapy could be considered in reducing pain

Immediate effect of alternate douche to whole body on autonomic and respiratory variables in healthy volunteers

Alternate douche is the one of the therapeutic treatment in naturopathy. Douche is the most satisfactory, flexible and adaptable tonic in hydrotherapy it may be employed at all temperatures like hot, cold and alternative and degrees of pressure can also be varied depending to the conditions. The present study aims to evaluate the physiological effects of alternate douche to whole body on healthy individuals. Totally 30 volunteers were selected. (Group 1)On Day 1 volunteers were given alternate douche intervention for 20 minutes and (Group 2)on day 2 the same volunteers are allowed to stand with their feet together, hands placed by the side of the body, palms facing inward in same room for 20 minutes. Assessments were made for both the groups before and after intervention. The assessments included were blood pressure (BP), heart rate (HR), heart rate variability (HRV), and respiratory rate (RR). Statistical analysis is done by using software SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences). The level of statistical significance was determined with p≤0.05. On comparison between groups shows significant difference in HR (p<0.05). Group 1 showed statistical significant changes in HF, mean RR, NN50, LF/HF ratio, and mean HR. The present study states that alternate douche stimulates the parasympathetic dominance so it can be effective for disorder of sympathetic dominance.

Challenges in development and implementation of Indian smart city mission

The rapid rise in India’s urban population is mainly in search of employment and education. Due to this rapid urbanization, the government is suppressed to concentrate on solutions for certain problems like overcrowding, pollution, resource constraints, needs for the development of infrastructure and restoration of ageing Infrastructure. As to meet these demand and problems, India has stepped into developing and constructing major cities as Smart cities in 2015 as ‘National Smart Cities Mission’ under Union Ministry of Urban Development. It is an initiative to make these cities friendly and sustainable to citizens as well as to nature. Some major barriers in developing a smart city in India are financing or allocation of budget, availability of resources, planning with most advanced techniques and making people used to it, rehabilitation and resettlement of huge population. Indian cities are already well-developed cities when compared to others, but through proper planning and implementation, it can also be made into Best smart cities in the world. This paper focuses on the Idea of Smart City, concept of smart city mission of India, its challenges and implementation. And also about the Smart city solutions and initiatives in some of the major smart cities of the world.

Efficiently diagnosing breast cancer detection from histological images by combining FCN and BI LSTM model

Bosom disease (BC) is one of the most continuous kinds of malignancy that grown-up females experience the ill effects of around the world. Numerous BC patients face irreversible conditions and even passing because of late determination and treatment. Thusly, early BC analysis frameworks dependent on obsessive bosom symbolism have been sought after in ongoing years. In this paper, we acquaint an end-with end model dependent on completely convolutional network (FCN) and bidirectional long momentary memory (Bi-LSTM) for BC discovery. FCN is utilized as an encoder for elevated level element extraction. Yield of the FCN is gone to a one-dimensional arrangement by the smooth layer and took care of into the Bi-LSTM's information. This technique guarantees that high-goal pictures are utilized as immediate contribution to the model. We directed our investigations on the Break his information base, which is openly accessible at http://web.inf.ufpr.br/vri/bosom malignant growth information base. So as to assess the execution of the proposed strategy, the exactness metric was utilized by considering the five-overlap cross validation procedure. Execution of the proposed technique was discovered to be in a way that is better than already announced outcomes.
