Applications of Operation Research in Indian flood management

India has faced more than 300 natural disasters in this millennium which has left the country in shackles and the people to fend for themselves in dire distress. Operation research comes into the picture and plays an important role in disaster management. Right from the positioning of supplies to the delivery, proper poetization and allocation of resources, OR is very important. The objective here is to be able to comprehend and outline the possible techniques that can be used in emergencies and at the same time try and check its feasibility in India. In order to facilitate the attainment of this objective, we went through several papers collected from published journals and used them to provide analysis and models. They helped us in coming to the conclusion that disasters like floods are not preventable and the use of operation research has made the job easier and at the same time leaving room for sufficient improvement in the field.

IoT smart agriculture farming technology – IY TWIST perspective

Smart agriculture is revolutionizing the entire farming industry. There has been a significant increase in agricultural yields during the 20th and 21st centuries. This can be attributed to the fact that farms are becoming automated with the use of adequate software and hardware. These are user-friendly as well as simple to use enabling easy monitoring for farmers. The latest technology is revolutionizing almost all fields that were traditional at one point in time, such as agriculture, nutrition, genetics, satellite imaging, and meteorology, to name a few. Crop yields have increased with advances in plant science. Efficient irrigation techniques are a must to ensure a quality yield from farming. The cost of end products should not be allowed to increase, as that will affect the morale of farmers adversely. The Food and Agricultural Organization of the UN (FAO) has estimated that there should be at least a 70% increase in food production by 2050.

Sign to speech converter for speech impaired people

Our aim for this project was to create a communication system between speech impaired people and other, and we came up with an idea for making a glove through which the speech-impaired people can send any type of simple signs like raising a finger and for each sign there would be different command or signal associated with it which could be then converted and given out as sound output through the speakers. We believe this project could be used in a wide area of application of not just for speech impaired people but also for elderly people who are bedridden or semi-paralyzed people.

Effectiveness of Integrated Pathway (IP) regarding care of people affected with Ebola virus disease

Introduction: Health care workers are at a greater risk of contact with infectious diseases such as Ebola virus disease the worst hit in 2014 and may promote transmission by occupational exposures. Objectives: To evaluate the effectiveness of Integrated Pathway on knowledge and attitude of nurses regarding care of people affected with EVD. Methodology: Quasi Experimental research approach, Time Series Design Non Equivalent Control Group Design was adopted. In the experimental and control group, each comprising 16 study participants, totally 32 from two different tertiary care hospitals, at Coimbatore. Knowledge and attitude questionnaire were used and analyzed by using descriptive statistics. Results: There was the highest significant difference between pre test and post test 3 score of knowledge of nurses in care of people affected with EVD (t = 21.2354; p < 0.05), whereas the lowest level of significant difference was found between post test 1 and post test 3 score of knowledge of nurses in care of people affected with EVD (t = 3.4802 ; p < 0.05). Also in control group, it depicted that there was significant difference found between pre test & post test 1 score of knowledge of nurses in care of people affected with EVD (t = 1.7111 ; p < 0.05), whereas the lowest level of significant difference was noted between post test 2 and post test 3 score of knowledge of nurses in care of people affected with EVD (t = 0.2559 ; p < 0.05). Conclusion: The study had proved the necessity to create a great impact on the level of knowledge and attitude of nurses.

Heterotopic ossification in distal interosseous membrane of the radius and ulna: A rare case

Heterotopic ossification is an abnormal formation of true bone within extraskeletal soft tissues. The interosseous membrane (IOM) runs obliquely from radius to ulna and attaches to their respective interosseous borders. It is an occasional site for heterotopic ossification (HO) that involves the development of mature lamellar bone. Heterotopic ossification resulting in radio-ulnar cross union occurs in 2% of all forearm injurie Heterotopic ossification resulting in radio-ulnar cross union occurs in 2% of all forearm injuries Heterotopic ossification resulting in radio-ulnar cross union occurs in 2% of all forearm injuries Heterotopic ossification resulting in radio-ulnar cross union occurs in 2% of all forearm injury Heterotopic ossification resulting in radio-ulnar cross union occurs in 2% of all forearm injuries Heterotopic ossification resulting in radio-ulnar cross union occurs in 2% of all forearm injuries the radius, hence to the ulna and humerus. The posterior relations near the carpus are the anterior interosseous artery and the posterior interosseous nerve. Heterotopic ossification resulting in radio-ulnar cross union occurs in 2% of all firearm injuries. During the routine undergraduate demonstration classes in the department of Anatomy at BLDEU’s Shri B. M. Patil Medical College, Bijapur, we found Heterotopic ossification resulting in radio-ulnar cross union occurs in 2 % of all forearm injuries. We report a case of ossification of the interosseous membrane (OIM) in a 17-year-old boy who had a history of trauma 1 month back followed by pain and swelling in the right wrist. The plain radiograph showed OIM in the distal interosseous membrane of the radius and ulna of the right hand. MRI showed bone intensity bridging the distal shaft of the radius and ulna.

Discussion on bad sitting posture recognition

Currently, an increase in the rate of spinal cord problems among young people and adults are due to improper sitting posture like slouching and hunching. This bad posture is due to the usage of computers, smartphones and other portable devices for long hours. In the recent years, there has been huge development in sitting posture monitoring systems to prevent the spinal and neck pain, Which are not only monitored the posture in real-time and also provide the feedback to improve their posture. The main aim of this survey paper has to provide a review of the recent advancement in the posture monitoring system. A detailed study has been carriedout about the various sensing technology used to measure the sitting and reading posture in real time and the feedback based on the measured data. This paper explores the various monitoring system classification based on the portability and ease of use of the system.
