Geometric design of highway using Civil 3D

It is essential to plan and design the road with safe, efficient, economic and easy for the movement of traffic and collect the details of different studies. Geometric design plays a major role in every road and it is weighty in the road alignment. AutoCAD Civil 3D is a software application used by civil engineers and professionals to plan and design the projects. This paper lavishes on a total geometric design of road using AutoCAD Civil 3D software. AutoCAD Civil 3D associate design and production drafting, greatly reducing the time it takes to implement design changes and assess multiple sets of circumstances. Although there are a number of factors influences on the design of highway, the suitable geometric design having the objective of giving optimum efficiency in traffic operation with contentment safety measures at a reasonable cost.

A review on “Study the performance of outrigger system under seismic loads”

High-rise structures in high seismic zones are subjected to earthquake forces, where the building performance is weakest in storey displacement and storey drift. Many types of research have adopted various techniques to improve the performance of high rise building. These techniques include the provision of core shear wall, bracing systems, dampers, etc. these techniques are able to reduce storey displacement to some extent, but the storey drift is the constraint was the performance of building weakens. This constraint makes the research work to adopt the technique of outrigger as an ancient technique used to reduce the vibration of the structure under the seismic shake. Hence, in this paper, a review of literature is studied to check the performance of the outriggers structural system in high rise building under seismic regions. The outrigger location and depth play an important role in the performance of the building. It is also observed that the outrigger structural system along with the core system reduces storey displacement up to some extent, but helps to reduce storey drift within the limit.

Optimum design of reinforced concrete flat slab with drop and column head

A reinforced concrete slab is supported directly by concrete columns without the use of beams. Flat slabs are highly versatile elements widely used in construction, providing minimum depth, fast construction and allowing flexible column grids. In this work, an attempt is made for optimum design of reinforced concrete flat slab with drop panel is according to the IS code method. The objective function is the total cost of the structure including the cost of the slab, drop and columns. The cost of each structural element covers that of materials (steel, concrete). In this work, a program in MATLAB was written for a flat slab with a drop by direct design method. Using this MATLAB program parameter optimization process is done for different span in both the directions. From this optimization, it is found that the cost of a flat slab decreases as the number of span increases by keeping the total length of the slab as constant.

Study on accidental risk analysis and preventive measures for road safety

Through comprehensive road safety plans have been formulated which focus on education, enforcement measures and emergency care, there is a lack of sound and rational engineering measures to improve the road safety in our country. This paper aims to analyse, evaluate and identify effective road safety treatment measures for a rural national highway. The study area will be the outer ring road and NH-44 connecting Hingna T Point Bus Stop to Chinch Bhavan Bus Stop. Accident data of past 4 years will be collected for the analysis. Basic aim of this study will be articulate, carry out complete analysis of crash data, and identify the critical stretch in the national highway which would require immediate safety improvements. Critical sketch is identified. This could aid the highway safety audits in country for identifying specific regions in national highways depending upon the geometric element which is aimed to improve as part of safety improvement programs.

Effect of vehicle characteristics and road geometric interface on capacity of roads

India is the nation with heterogeneous traffic condition and the increasing population day to day, this reduces the capacity of roads. The capacity of the roads is affected by the road geometric condition, driver’s behavior and the traffic condition on the roads. In the following study, the effects of road geometry and vehicle characteristic are seen on the capacity of roads. The study was done on the urban roads of Nagpur, Maharashtra. The roads taken in the study are of different types with different geometric conditions, which are analyzed by their conditions and dimensions of the roads. The second phase of the study deals with vehicular characteristics. The proportion of each type of vehicles has its own effect on the capacity of the roads. The speed of the vehicles is also an important factor for finding capacity. As the traffic in India is heterogeneous the Passenger Car Unit (PCU) is used for calculating the capacity of roads. The regression models are used to find the results of the proportional effects of vehicles and vehicle/speed on the capacity. The final capacity of the roads is done with the Greenshields model. The estimation of capacity is done from the linear equation generated by Greenshields model. And then results are compared with the result obtained from the regression model to find the effects of the roads.

Theft detection system using wireless smart energy meter

Nowadays electricity meter reading and billing is conducted manually by a door-to-door system. This system requires large man power and is time and energy consuming. The theft of electricity is a major concern of the transmission and distribution losses in the supply of electricity. To overcome these limitations a prototype module smart energy meter reading system is proposed which includes advanced wireless technology called “ZIGBEE”. In this system, time delay, errors, and theft of electricity is reduced. The Zigbee technology works at low frequency, low data rate hence it is preferred more and its cost is also less. Wireless Electric Meter is used for remote collection of unit count and sending the bill on the consumer's meter screen. Wireless automatic meter reading technology not only saves human resources but improves the accuracy and remote access of a meter. The consumers are no more dependent on conventional power. The proposed meter calculates the net bill, units consumed and theft detection is displayed on the LCD screen. Keywords: Zigbee, man power, smart energy meter.
