Development of village as a smart village –A case study on Ponkurichi village

“The Future of India lies in its villages” Mahatma Gandhiji. A smart village knows about its citizen, available resources, applicable services, and schemes. It knows what it needs and when it needs. The concept of the smart village makes the villages self-sufficient in respect of their needs. This study was carried out with the main focus to develop the Ponkurichi village into a smart village. The household survey was carried out throughout the Ponkurichi village to understand the needs of the residents and to provide the basic amenities like educational facilities, health care center, rainwater harvesting, transportation facilities, agriculture, water facilities, waste disposal, recreation area, etc. result of the survey and other secondary data collection, the immediate needs and other infrastructural requirements required for the Ponkurichi village are identified. The future land use pattern of the Ponkurichi village is proposed with the recommendations of basic infrastructural facilities to the Ponkurichi village to develop it into a smart village.

Factors controlling scheduling of construction projects

The occurrence of a delay in the construction project is a common problem in civil engineering. There is an increase in the number of construction projects experiencing extensive delays leading to exceeding the initial time and cost budget. The delay is a situation where the actual progress of a construction project is slower than the planned schedule. This paper presents a major construction delay caused by rank order retrieved from past literature by analyzing several negative effects. Even though over the years, existing delay analysis techniques (DATs) for aiding this decision-making have been helpful but have not succeeded in curbing the high incidence of disputes associated with delay claims resolutions and a major source of the disputes lies with the limitations and capabilities of the techniques in their practical use. Developing a good knowledge of these aspects of the techniques is of paramount importance in understanding the real problematic issues involved and their improvement needs. So analyzing all the data’s over a decade this paper seeks to develop such knowledge and understanding. Thus this paper presents a major construction delay caused by rank order retrieved from past literature. It is followed by collecting a list of factors that cause the delay in a construction project. The collected factors are analyzed categorized into groups with ranking. A scheduling model of the apartment building is developed using MS-Project. To develop delay factors influencing in the model. As a result, the comparison between actual schedule progress and factors influencing the schedule are determined. From the study, the unforced delay is identified, so that that delay can be considered in the developing of any future construction scheduling work.

Tackling aquaphobia using Virtual Reality

Aqua phobia is a disease caused due to many cases such as rabies, inheritance or previous false experiences with respect to water. In some cases, the cause of this disease is eradicated, but the disease itself is a phobia therefore, it remains in the mind. Such cases are taken to a psychologist or a psychiatrist, which causes individuals lot amount of charges. Therefore, a costeffective solution is needed for this critical issue. Virtual Reality creates an environment for any individual which is totally different form the current reality. This might prove to be a solution for the issue of Aqua phobia. Virtual Reality has the ability to render environments where an Aqua phobic individual can experience the fearsome situations visually. The proposed plan focuses on simulating different environments (levels) wherein fearsome environments of different intensity would be provided to the Aqua phobic people. While experiencing these environments visually, the individual would be in coordination with a pulse-rate sensor. This sensor, integrating with the application would provide a percentage on removal of Aqua phobia for that respective level. If the percentage amount crosses certain percentage, then the individual would be able to move on to the next level. This project aims on reducing effect of Aqua phobia, as the related diseases are removed but the phobias which are caused due to the diseases retain. In future, the project aims to tackle Claustrophobia and Arachnophobia as well.

Intelligent pothole detection via deep learning using Raspberry-Pi microcontroller

Bad road conditions are public trouble, causing passenger discomfort, damage to vehicles, and accidents. In India, 9300 deaths and over 25000 injured in 3 years due to potholes according to Ministry of road transport and Highways. Often we complain about bad roads, we have no proper way to detect or report them at scale. To address this issue, we have developed a system to detect potholes and assess road conditions on the go. Our solution is a raspberry pi that captures data on a car’s movement from gyroscope and accelerometer sensors in the Sense Hat sensor. To assess roads using this sensor data, we trained SVM model and Multi layer Perceptron Neural Network to classify road conditions with 97% accuracy. As the user drives, the models use the accelerometer and gyroscope sensor data to classify whether or not pothole is present. Then, the classification results are given to the public to drive by looking at the Potholes in map. Our system will empower civic officials to identify and repair damaged roads which inconvenience passengers and cause accidents

Intelligent vehicle accident detection and ambulance rescue system

The accident is the major fatalities in the world. Where the victims die with lack of emergency personnel or remain unnoticed over the night. Road accident is a collision between any vehicles or it can be with any pedestrian, animal and any obstacle placed on or off the road. The mortality rate of the victim depends on the time taken to reach the accident location and to reach the hospital by ambulance. As time increases the mortality rate of the victim also increases. In this paper, we introduce system that automatically detects the accident occurrences and notifies the recorded ambulance through GSM and GPS module, and the time delay is minimized by introducing RF module at the traffic signals. Whenever an accident occurs the vibration sensor senses the accident occurrence automatically makes microcontroller to retrieve the location of the accident through GPS and GSM will notify the recorded ambulance driver with messaging which consist of longitude and latitude coordinates of the location. If the current ambulance which received the message is not available then the message is sent to the next ambulance number, so that immediate help can be provided. This system also controls the traffic signals in the path of an ambulance by providing RF communication between the ambulance and traffic section. The methods used in the paper are fully automated which finds the accident spot, controls the traffic lights, helps to reach the hospital as soon as possible.

Sustainable participation of Artificial Intelligence in design process

The rise of AI has been in the core of several speculations about it taking over all the jobs from humans, however, Artificial intelligence is also recognized as one of the most disruptive technological advancement of the 21st century. This paper talks about the role of AI in the process of design, considering the role of human intelligence and artificial intelligence in an eco-system of the design process. Paper articulates conclusive note postulating sustainable roles of artificial intelligence in the design process. The paper should be helpful for professional designers, engineers, developers, visionaries, academicians and CXOs to understand and define the future scope of artificial intelligence in design. It should also be helpful to students and practitioners interested in the subject to understand, dream and imagine new aspects of human-machine interactions.
