No end in sight – Television is here to stay

When video began to stream over mobile and computers, speculation gusted about the end of television. Just as there were speculations about TV replacing radio or TV replacing cinema. But given the recent proliferation of FM channels and number of movies releasing every week and hitting the box office, it is clear that one media did not kill the other. The same is with the television and the new media. Technological convergence and explosion of new media did not and cannot end television. This study clearly establishes that television is alive, stronger and bigger today.

Stock prediction marketing using machine learning

The share market has traditionally been the proving grounds for machine learning applications. There is a lack of an algorithm which can find the heuristic reasoning of humans based on current events/trends. The proposed system is an attempt to reconcile computed sentiments alongside traditional/more common data mining. Datasets consisting of historical data as well as recent headlines will be mined to ascertain stock price movement. In the proposed system it is to be hoped, more accurately predict stock price movement by emulating instinctual reasoning by implementing sentiment analysis.

Power electronics assisted OLTC for grid voltage regulation

High utilization of co-generation has given rise to the occurrence of voltage fluctuations in the electrical distribution network. The paper provides a brief idea of the designing of the partially rated, Power Electronic assisted On Load Tap Changer (OLTC) transformer. Most of the tap changers implemented traditionally are the mechanically operated which are having their own advantages and disadvantages such as arcing during switching, high maintenance due to mechanical contacts, service cost and slow reaction time for an operation. Implementation of electronic tap changer has drastically removed the most of shortfall which can be observed at mechanical tap changer. The rapid growth in the field of electronic industries has allowed us for the use of power semiconductor devices, such as the Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor (IGBT), TRIAC, MOSFET and GTO has assisted us for the proper functioning of OLTC regulators. This paper uses TRIAC as the voltage regulator. The paper gives an idea for designing of a fast-acting OLTC regulator with tapings on the primary side (hv side) hence allowing to reduce losses and to have faster action.

The significance of assistive technology in inclusive education: Creating scope for person with disabilities

"For most people technology makes things easier. For people with disabilities technology makes things possible”. -Mary Pat Radabaugh (1993) This paper advocates the significance of Assistive Technology (AT) in Inclusive Education: Creating Scope for Person with Disabilities (PwDs). It suggests that Inclusive Education is the most important feature for the PwDs to their lifestyle which has both social and academic aspects. “AT is any item, equipment, hardware, product or service which retains, increases or advances the functional competences of individuals of any age, especially those with disabilities, and supports them more easily to communicate, learn, enjoy and live better, more independent lives” (BATA, 2011). AT is one of the most accurate features in making education progress in inclusive settings. AT is seen to be the most empowering instrument to achieve the goals of independent living. It plays a vital role in taking up the process of including PwDs placing and giving them genuine opportunities to participate and learn together in an inclusive environment. As “Education for All” claims, within the common classroom the concept of teaching and learning that integrates assistive technology approaches and accommodations, become more significant for PWDs in the inclusion setting. The paper discusses an enhanced understanding of AT and its relationship with PwDs. Also, it explains how AT can support the dynamic involvement and full inclusion of PwDs in every aspect of life.

Inductive power transfer for massive electric vehicle charging by single phase inverter

The studies for a Hybrid Electrical Vehicle (HEV) have attracted considerable attention because of the necessity of developing alternative methods to generate energy for vehicles due to limited fuel-based energy, global warming, and exhaust emission limits in the last century. Charging infrastructure for Electric Vehicles (EV) will be the key factor for ensuring a smooth transition to e-mobility. This paper focuses on charging technologies that will play a fundamental role in this regard: smart charging, contactless charging and on-road charging of EVs. Smart charging of EVs is expected to enable larger penetration of EVs and renewable energy, lower the charging cost and offer better utilization of the grid infrastructure. On the other hand, stationary contactless charging and on-road inductive charging of EV will remove the necessity for any cables, eliminate range anxiety issues and pave the way for automated driving. The electromagnetic and power converter design for contactless power transfer systems for future highways is reviewed in this paper Contactless charging is also known as wireless charging. Wireless power transfer works on the Inductive Power Transfer (IPT) principle, as found in the conventional transformers. An IPT charging method suitable for charging massive EBs is proposed to achieve Constant Current (CC) and Constant Voltage (CV) output with feedback control strategies or communication link between the transmitter side and receiver side. Two ac switches (ACSs) and an auxiliary capacitor utilized at the receiver side are employed to be operated once to change the charging modes from CC mode to CV mode.

Anatomy of agitations in Kashmir

The protests that broke out after the elimination of HM Commander Burhan Wani on 08 July 2016 took the State and security establishment by surprise and caught them completely off guard. This unrest was qualitatively different from previous protests in terms of intensity, scale, and the nature of public participation. since then there has been a substantial increase in violent incidents and fatalities through the rest of the year especially in the Kashmir Valley. A debate has also been started in public domain about the need to remove article 370 so that rest of the Indians could invest, purchase property or settle down in J & K. The situation in Kashmir Valley has been going through intermittent phases of stability and turmoil. This present cycle of protests and agitations is however disconcerting. The two most alarming aspects of the current phase of Kashmir's agitational terrorism are the rise in the number of local terrorists, and the growing acceptance and legitimacy of terrorists in society. The situation has been exploited fully by Pakistan with an impetus to cross border terrorism and continued support to the separatist movement.
