Abstract
Public Sector Banks have played a very important role in providing credit to Priority Sector, sectors in Rural India. Recent scams in Public Sector Banks and increasing NPAs have created a voice for the privatization of PSU Banks. This paper advocates autonomous status for PSU Banks and keeping control of the Government sector at least 50 % shareholding in such banks needed for meeting targeted lending to the priority sectors of the economy.
