Abstract

Classroom participation by students is very important for learning effectiveness. However, the participation of all students in classroom discussions is not always there. This can be attributed to several factors. The factors are both individual and contextual. This paper discusses the reasons for poor classroom participation and discusses strategies to improve classroom discussion, which ultimately leads to effective learning and development of confidence and communication skills in students and helps to have meaningful and interesting classes. This paper also discusses the pitfalls that need to be taken care of by the instructor.
