Abstract
This work examines the role of the Nyankpe institution in dispensing justice in pre-colonial Banyang country in the Republic of Cameroon. It argues that Nyankpe played a significant role in establishing truth and dispensing justice among the Banyang. The recruitment of those who administered justice was carefully done taking certain things into consideration. The efficiency and satisfaction in the delivery of justice promoted unity, peace, tranquility, and sustainable development in the Banyang country. In carrying out this research, a historical method was applied and a qualitative instrument of analysis was made use of. We consulted and made use of primary and secondary sources including archival materials, interviews, a questionnaire, articles, and books. These were helpful in providing us with the material needed to defend our claim that Nyankpe effectively administered justice in Banyang country in pre-colonial times.
